Bind Us Together
Heading into spring and the end of the school year things always get busy and this is the case for us as well. There will be a number of special services in the month of May. On May 5th, the children and youth will lead the worship service. Mary Alice has been working hard to get the little cherub choir ready for an angelic presentation for the glory of God. Laura is working with the youth as they prepare to lead and share their faith with us. It will be a very special day to see how the children and youth we have nurtured and loved all these years, share their love of Jesus.
In worship, we will be nurtured in the Word of God and then we will nurture our bodies and souls as we gather in Grace Hall for a covered dish lunch. I have always been a fan of Church covered dish meals because we get to taste all the yummy treats that everyone makes (deviled eggs, deviled eggs, deviled eggs), but more than that we get to share time with people from the church that we do not know very well. We often find that God binds us through that time together.
My children fondly remember a covered dish that did just that. Everyone was instructed to sit with another family they did not know very well. We ended up beside John and Tumpy Creech. John was a quiet man of few words, but Tumpy more than made up for it. She told the children one story after another and the children laughed until they cried. We were literally the last people in the fellowship hall because they did not want the time to end. And from that meal together, a lasting bond was formed; one that would last until Tumpy’s death. When we are bound to Jesus Christ through his love and grace, we are also bound to one another. We certainly experience that love through worship and time centered around the Word, but we also experience it through time around the table and shared stories that make us laugh until we cry. Won’t you join me on May 5th as our bodies and souls are nurtured and we strengthen our bond?
Peace, Josie
