Celebrating 250 Years Under God’s Providence
“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.” — Psalm 24:1
This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As Americans, we give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy and remember with gratitude those who have sacrificed to preserve them. Above all, we give thanks to Almighty God, whose steadfast love has sustained every generation.
Here at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, this anniversary carries special meaning. Our congregation was founded in 1736, forty years before the birth of our nation. Long before there was a United States of America, faithful believers gathered on this soil to worship God, proclaim His Word, celebrate the Sacraments, and bear witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we are reminded that while our nation has a remarkable history, our deepest identity is found not in any earthly kingdom but in the Kingdom of God. The same Lord who watched over our forebears continues to guide His Church today. He calls us to worship Him faithfully, love our neighbors generously, seek justice humbly, and share the hope of Christ with the generations yet to come.
