Give Thanks
Today I led chapel for the children from the preschool and kindergarten. We talked about thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful. We talked about how we celebrate and show our gratitude during this time of the year. I told them the Bible teaches us to be thankful, not just when we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving, but every single day. There are many passages in both Old and New testaments that express our need and desire to give thanks to God Almighty. What is it that you are thankful for these days? Health, family, church, community, God’s love for you….what is it that fills you with gratitude? Is it the big things in life, or the subtle and mundane? What fills you with gratitude?
Sunday after church, while conversing with some members I mentioned a lady from the first church I served as pastor. Her name was Sarah McKeown. She was well into her 80s by the time I was blessed enough to know her. At that point she had a lifetime of big and small blessings of gratitude so she focused more intently on the day to day. This was her prayer of thanksgiving each and every morning. ”Thank you God for giving me the ability to put two feet on the floor, that I might breathe in your goodness and live it out for your glory” What a simple, but wonderful expression of gratitude! What a great way to give thanks to God for love and grace that comes to us through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
What is your prayer of thanksgiving this year? What is your prayer of thanksgiving each day?
Whatever it is, in gratitude, give thanks.
Peace, Josie
