Makes the World Go Round
“You gained any weight since you’ve been in Kingstree?” When I heard that recently I did not know if it was a question or an observation. It might have been a test to see if I was truthful. I had one “friend” who called and asked what size shorts I wear. He said he had some new ones that did not fit him. I do not think it was out of genuine concern. A friend recently reminded me summer is coming soon, and they looked forward to us coming to their pool. All I could think of was the gasp when I take off my shirt and dive in the water.
I blame much of that on you. At church you fed me hamburgers, pileau, chicken, plenty of vegetables and desserts. You have dropped things at our house. Candy has mysteriously shown up on my desk. It has all been savored. What you have really overwhelmed us with are doses of love, large and small. Asking for nothing in return.
We are often asked how things are going at “your” house? Legally, the house belongs to the church. Yet, you intentionally call it ours. When I call my mom even before I can get out the words, “Hey mom”, she says, “Hello precious!” The rest of my family, including our kids, think it is hilarious. At my age, I just grin. While none of you have called Eva or me “Rev. Precious,” you have certainly made us feel special and loved. Which is far more precious than poundcake or BBQ. Thanks.
And my answer to the question/observation about any weight gain… I don’t know. Don’t own any scales. Nor do I plan on buying any.
Have fun, David
