P.A.D.D. Sunday
It’s hard to believe that it has been over 20 years ago since seeds of compassion were planted in the hearts of church members and pastors in New Harmony Presbytery, but it is so. Recognizing the need for a location to house highly functioning developmentally disabled adults in the Pee Dee area, a group of Presbyterians shared ideas, pooled together resources, and created a ministry for our area that is now known as P.A.D.D. (Presbyterian Agency for Developmentally Disabled). In the beginning, there was one house where these adults could live away from their families with supervision from a trained house mother. By the grace of God, over time the ministry has grown to three houses, two for women and one for men. In fact, we have a connection to a resident. Alex Nexsen, who grew up in this church and was nurtured and loved by so many of you, now lives in the first male house. That home was the most recent addition. The whole ministry is a blessing to families and a blessing to these adults who gain confidence, some independence, not to mention a whole new group of friends.
The Session has approved April 21 as P.A.D.D. Sunday. We will take up a collection to help support this wonderful ministry, which will be used to make a difference in the lives of people in our own community. If you feel so called, we invite you to give. Checks can be made out to WPC and designated to P.A.D.D., or you can go to the website and give directly.
Peace, Josie
