Sunday, Sunday So, Good to Me
Some of you might say, “Is David out of his mind?” Or that trip to Kansas City might have some lasting effects. I hope neither is the case. I hope the title of the sermon is true of most Sundays, but I guarantee it will be true this Sunday.
First, we will celebrate the incredible ministry of Rose Marie Jarrett for almost four decades of teaching young, snooty nosed kids, beautiful, funny, and energetic children. It was a ministry as she taught life lessons in a Christian environment. It was tough to listen to the children cry on that first day of school, yet, within a few weeks they were greeting Miss Rosa Ree like the greatest person on the planet. I’m not going that far, but if we could truly count the number of lives and families she changed, well, it would be a lot. In light of that and more, our thanksgiving seems meager. Our love for Rose Marie Jarrett is deep.
Second, we will celebrate our church’s ministry we call “Backpack Blessings”. Under the guidance of the Evangelism and Service Committee and the loving leadership of Bitzie Owens, we have provided food and snacks to carry children through the weekend. We began this ministry three years ago serving ten children. Now, we are serving thirty-five children each week. We partner with Anderson Primary School and this Sunday, Dr. Debbie Donnelly, Principal of the school will tell us of the impact this program makes.
Do not fret, I will have a BRIEF sermon.
Fittingly, we will end this service with the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. We will remember the words spoken through the ages, “These are the gifts of God for the people of God.” Then we will sing a hymn of praise and the doors of the church will open wide so we can go out and serve the people of God.
So, you don’t accuse me of plagiarism, the title of this newsletter article, “Sunday, Sunday” comes from a song by the Mamas and the Papas titled, “Monday, Monday”.
Have Fun, David
