Time and Talents
When I was a child I remember singing the “Magic Penny Song”
Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away. Love is something if you give it away, you’ll end up having more. It’s just like a magic penny. Hold it tight and you won’t have any. Lend it, spend it and you’ll have so many, they’ll roll all over the floor!”
This past weekend, I saw you, the Church, sharing and lending your “pennies” as you hosted the SC Historical Society Tour and as you graciously shared your hospitality. When a couple from Charleston realized that I was the pastor, they said, “This church has exceeded everything we expected today. Everyone has been so gracious and kind. You make us want to come back just so we can worship with you.” Wow! What a witness to being the church and being a welcoming one at that! Thank you all for being you and sharing it with others.
As we enter into November it is a season for thanksgiving and gratitude. In response to the love and grace of a merciful God who blesses us in more ways than we can count or even imagine, we don’t hold on to our “magic pennies”, but we lend them and we share them with the church and the community. There are many ways we can share. Certainly we can share with our financial giving, but also, as you did this past weekend, with our time and the variety of gifts . This year Time and Talent sheets will be distributed on November 12th. Please look them over and pray about ways you may be able to share your gifts for the glory of God. Do you like to meet new people? Maybe God is calling you to reach out to people when they visit the church. Do you enjoy doing things with children? Maybe God is calling you to help with the nursery or assist Laura with children’s activities. Do you have a gift for public speaking? Maybe God is calling you to teach or to help assist with worship services. Do you enjoy helping people who are less fortunate than you? Maybe God is calling you to help out with the Backpack Blessing ministry or serving food at the Blessed Angela meals. In this season of gratitude let’s think of our financial giving, our time, and our talents as “magic pennies” and give them away for the glory of God.
We would like to collect completed forms by Christ the King Sunday, which is November 26th.
Peace, Josie
