What a Difference 59 Years Makes
1966 – 59 years ago the Weekday Preschool program opened.
- Lyndon Johnson was President.
- The Ford Mustang was the most popular car.
- The Grinch Stole Christmas debuted.
- $1could buy $956 today.
- Williamsburg Kindergarten at WPC opened.
In 1978, Judy Hall started teaching followed by Judy Tisdale and that began three decades of “J&J University.” Following Judy Tisdale’s retirement in 2011, the Kingstree Community was blessed with the addition of Jennifer McKenzie, so “J&J University continued.
The impact our school has had since Lyndon Johnson is beyond comprehension. On the first day of school, I see older siblings take the hand of their younger brothers and sisters introduce them to a loving teacher and say, “It will be alright, I promise!” I see parents celebrate that their child will have an incredible foundation because they experienced that. Even grandparents reminisce about their years here.
Children since the days of The Beatles have learned their ABC’s, their 123’s, they have learned to wash their hands when they go to the bathroom and so say “Thank you”. They know more Bible verses than I do and can sing songs from opera to jazz to rock n roll.
As the saying goes, “All good things come to an end.” But this ministry is not coming to an end. Because of the deep Christian love instilled in these boys and girls the gifts of our Weekday School will last for generations to come.
When I left, far more than missing Brown’s BBQ was hearing Judy Hall and those kids singing. It was Holy Ground. Words cannot express our appreciation. The words that keep ringing in my ears are, “Well done, good and faithful servants, well done.”
Have Fun, David
