What I Learned
“Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” is one of my favorite books. I wish I had written it. However, I have another book in mind, “Everything I Have Learned About Falling.” Some of you may know I took a fall last week, not a bad one for anybody except me. Even though I am on my way to feeling like a Rolls Royce, what did I learn by falling?
– Don’t walk alone in the dark.
– Don’t take out the trash if you don’t have a spouse to take it out, pile it up in the corner.
– Those demons masquerading as Physical Therapists really are here to help.
– Find something to lean on.
This week I have been very aware of my need to lean on my cane. And I have been reminded of the great song occasionally sung by Presbyterians,
So, I’m leaning, leaning
Save and secure from all alarms
I’m leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Maybe if I am ever fool enough to walk in the dark carrying the trash, I’ll remember to find something to lean on…Like a rail. In addition, in everyday and every situation, I think I’ll remember the words of this old hymn and I will lean on the everlasting arms.
Have fun, David
