What Just Happened?
It feels like two weeks ago the children were finishing up the school year and we were celebrating all of our Seniors with graduation, and now, here we are right on the cusp of another school year! Staying up late, sleeping in, swimming all hours of the day, and going on vacations are all about to end and everything will be back on a schedule in just a matter of days. I don’t know about you, but it makes me say, “What just happened?” Time passes so quickly and we find ourselves saying, “please slow down”. On Sunday we would like for all the children, youth, and teachers to bring their backpacks to church so that we can bless the upcoming school year and all the exciting and wonderful opportunities that lie ahead. As people of faith it will be a time to surround them with our prayers and support for the 2023-24 school year. This is a special blessing that I cherish and love to be a part of each year and I hope that you do too! This blessing will take place during our worship service. Also, in preparation of the coming year and all it entails, in worship this Sunday we will gather around the Lord’s Table and nourish our souls as we share the Bread and the Cup together. What a wonderful start to a great school year! It all reminds me of the communion hymn I Come with Joy. These are the first two verses.
I Come with Joy
I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved, and free, the life of Jesus to recall, in love laid down for me, in love laid down for me.
I come with Christians far and near, to find, as all are fed, the new community of love in Christ’ communion bread, in Christ’ communion bread.
Blessed and nourished in the Body of Christ we will go into the schools, our community, and the world not asking “What just happened?” But rather, “Thanks be to God!”
Peace, Josie
