Where Is God Calling You to Serve?
As we kick off a new year of Christian Education at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, it is a wonderful time to ask ourselves a simple question: Where is God calling me to serve? The church is a family, and every one of us has a part to play. God has given each of us different gifts and abilities, and He calls us to use them to serve others.
There are so many ways to serve at Williamsburg Presbyterian. You might serve meals with Blessed Angela, teach or help with Sunday School, volunteer in the nursery or Children’s Church, sing in the choir, or work with our youth. You might help lead worship, cook and serve with FCA, prepare meals for our shut-ins and those who are sick, serve with the Sanctuary Guild, help clean the church, or pack and deliver bags through Backpack Blessings.
Some acts of service are big and visible, while others happen quietly behind the scenes. But every act of service matters. Every meal delivered, child taught, song sung, and bag packed is an opportunity to show the love of Christ.
Paul reminds us in 1 Peter 4:10:“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.”
It takes all of us to make the ministry of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church possible. We don’t all have the same gifts, but when we each do our part, God can use us to make a difference.
So as this new year begins, take a moment to pray: Where is God calling you to serve? Maybe it is somewhere you have served before. Maybe it is something completely new. Whatever your gifts or abilities, there is a place for you.
Let’s begin this year asking not just, “What can the church do for me?” but “Lord, what can I do for You?” It takes everyone. It takes a willing heart. And it takes all of us working together.
