Last week I mentioned ways that we might try to grow in our spiritual life and deepen our connection to God. This week, as we continue to seek new ways of improving our lives during the new year, I thought it would be helpful to mention ways we can grow in our discipleship. God is always calling us to serve others and share our gifts and resources as faithful followers of Christ. Many of you have heard that call and have responded by volunteering at the Felician Center, delivering Meals on Wheels, helping out with the nursery here at the church, cooking meals for our time of fellowship, and even helping out with the youth. These are all wonderful ways to give back to God by serving others. As we seek new ways to grow in this new year, here are a few more ways that God might be calling you to serve. Have you thought about helping with the Backpack Blessing ministry? There is always a need for people to pack and deliver the backpacks, AND people are needed to stock the bins when they get low, and even do some shopping from time to time. The Christian Education committee sent out a digital signup for HEbrews coffee time. Have you considered hosting one Sunday? The Congregational Care committee is looking for some cooks to help stock the freezer with small portions of food that can be delivered to homebound and sick people in the church and the community. Do you ever have extra portions of soup or even a casserole you can share? The Swails Lot needs some attention so we can make better use of the property. Could God be calling you to help out with some good ole physical labor? Do you like to build? There may be a need to build wheelchair ramps for people in the community. Do you like to tinker with IT? We would like to create a Communications Committee to help improve the ways that we reach out to one another, and we would love to teach some more people how to run the sound system and film our worship services each week. In all of these suggested ways to serve, skill is not a requirement, just a willing servant’s heart. How is God calling you to grow in your discipleship in 2024? Listen intently, for God is calling.
Peace, Josie
