The Upside of Living Around the Corner
One of the upsides of living in the manse, just around the corner from the church, is it takes me about ninety seconds to get here. So, I can show up without anyone knowing I’m coming and catch people amid all sorts of inexplicable behavior. The past week I have been aghast at the things I saw:
- Men putting up new light fixtures in the Educational Building
- One lady putting up tables for the Lenten Lunch. (Don’t ask why I didn’t help her.)
- Members cleaning the burners on the stove.
- Mysteriously, there is silverware on the tables.
- On Saturday, when nobody would see him, a man was washing the outside windows at Grace Hall.
- Someone teaching a book study on two different days to over thirty people.
- Members cooking and serving at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast.
- Visits to many members that I find out about after the fact.
- Meals, call, cards, you name it…
- The sound of singing and laughing from the kids and teachers at Moms Morning Out.
That is just in seven days. Imagine what went on that I have no clue. Sometimes, I am asked why Eva and I came out of retirement and became Pastors in Kingstree, SC. I think I’ll start carrying this list with me and I will not have to say a word.
MANY THANKS to the Saints of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church! ALSO….another bonus, I park behind the manse so you have no idea when I’m home napping!”
Have Fun, David
