Wandering Heart
Wow! It’s hard to believe, but Lent begins early this year! Wednesday we begin the journey with an Ash Wednesday service. Then we will meander in the wilderness for a while before we make our way to the cross and the empty tomb. For this season of Lent, we will find inspiration in one of Jesus’ best known disciples, Simon Peter. Instead of following the lectionary each Sunday we will study different stories of the first to be called and the way he responded to that call of discipleship. Why Peter? Because, more than any other disciple, he represents both the elation and struggles of our own faith. Like us, Peter was full of faith and full of doubt…sometimes all at once!
Our theme for this journey is Wandering Heart. Taking inspiration from portions of the hymn, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, which grapples with the very real struggles of faith, we will see how Jesus continued to reach out, love, and challenge Peter through his blunders, his doubts, and his denial. As we resonate with the stories of the one Jesus called “The Rock,” which the church was built upon, hopefully our hearts will grow and our faith will deepen.
In preparation for the beginning of our Lenten journey read the lyrics of the second verse of this great hymn and feel free to listen to it in its entirety sung here

Let the music wash over you as you reflect on the ways we wander away and rush back into the arms of our loving God.
Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by thy help I’m come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.
Peace, Josie
