Grounded in Our Faith
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” — Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)
I am going to be very open and honest (don’t laugh) but I have been practicing “grounding” lately. Do you know what that is? You walk outside barefooted and spend time with God with your feet in the earth He created. I do this at home but lately I have been doing this the first ten minutes I get to work at the church. I walk under the oak tree that has been here for hundreds of years, walking on holy ground that God created and placed this church building on over a hundred years ago. I pray and soak in God’s glory. I think of the men and women who have walked on the same ground before me. In a world of constant change and uncertainty, being grounded in our faith is more important than ever. Just as a tree cannot withstand storms without deep roots, we too must be rooted in Christ to stand firm against the challenges of life.
To be grounded in faith means to build our lives on the solid foundation of God’s truth. Jesus taught in Matthew 7:24-25 that the wise person is the one who hears His words and puts them into practice—like a house built on rock that remains standing when the rain and wind come.
I have been seeking ways to be more grounded in faith. I fall short everyday but I know that God is loving and nudges me to get back on track when I fall short. These are just a few ways I feel grounded in my faith.
- Daily prayer, devotions, and scripture reading: Like spiritual nourishment, these habits strengthen our foundation and remind us of God’s promises.
- Staying connected to the body of Christ: Fellowship with other believers encourages and holds us accountable in love (Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Living out our faith through action: Whether serving others, forgiving freely, or standing for truth, our faith becomes visible when we put it into practice.
- Trusting God in trials: Like Job, who held fast to his faith amid suffering, we too are called to remain steadfast, believing that God is at work even when we don’t understand the outcome. I am thankful for God, my family and our church family for lifting my family up especially over the last two years.
Let us remember that being grounded doesn’t mean we won’t face storms—it means we are anchored in the One who calms them.
May we continue to grow deeper roots in Christ, drawing strength, hope, and peace from Him each day.
