Weathering Storms
It’s been quite a week, hasn’t it? Even as we try to keep up with our daily duties, we have been distracted by hourly weather updates from Ed Piotrowski and the news that Jim Cantore is in Charleston. It’s never good to hear that Jim is in the state right before a hurricane is supposed to arrive! Impending storms result in anxiety and nervous energy for so many of us who have endured rain, wind, and rising water levels from the past. The very thought of a storm can leave us restless and concerned. And even as we buy extra milk and snacks, check the kerosene for the generator, get the sump pump ready, and figure out what to do with the children if school is canceled, still, there are other storms taking place as well. Storms like surgery, treatments, and the heavy weight of grief swirl around making it hard for some to breathe…or eat…or sleep. Unfortunately, there is no pass from these storms of life, even as a hurricane churns off of the Atlantic.
In these times and so many more challenges that we face in life it is helpful to remember the promises of God. In Matthew 28: 20 Jesus said, “Remember I will be with you even until the end of the age.” Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Great is the faithfulness of God! It endures throughout life, even when we face storms that threaten us from all sides.
Writer Ann Voskamp says, “Sometimes God calms the storms and sometimes the storms swirl and God calms our fears.” (Ann Voskamp.com) And either way, God is faithful till the end. Thanks be to God!
Peace, Josie
